NUS Students Kart for Kids
The members of the NUS Motoring Club are organising their own carpark race to raise funds

LOCAL MOTORSPORTS FANS need not lament the absence of the SMSA’s National Stadium carpark rallies. This year, they will be able to get their racing fix at the NUS campus at Kent Ridge.
However, instead of souped-up Mitsubishi Evos and Subaru WRXs competing against each other, 50cc go-karts will be seen zipping around the campus grounds.
The Motoring Club is staging a kart race at the carpark adjoining the Computer Science building on February 26th from 9am to 6pm. The club plans to make this race an annual event.
Speaking exclusively to CarBuyer, the NUS Motoring Club chairman Ricky Lin said: “Many people feel that in order to enjoy proper racing, you need to own a car, which is not very affordable here. Karting, on the other hand, is considerably more affordable and can be just as much fun”.
There will also be a small fair with booths set up by several sponsors. Among them is Cycle & Carriage Kia, which hopes to expose its range of affordable models like the Picanto to the students and faculty attending the race.
All monies raised from this event will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.
If you’re an NUS alumnus interested in participating in the race or forming a team, find out more at www.nusmc.up.to, or e-mail clubmotoring@yahoo.com.
