By Sheldon Trollope

THE SHELL GROUP in Singapore announced it had handed over donations amounting to $718,993.46 to help victims of the recent tsunami and earthquake disasters. This was raised through a collective effort involving customers, staff and the company, with the final sum surpassing the amount previously pledged.

The charity campaign started at the end of December 2004. Shell promised to donate five cents from every litre of petrol and diesel sold for a week, and match the total amount of contribution made by its staff.
