M5 Arrives

BMW’s 507bhp fire-breathing monster hits local showroom

By Nick Syn

BMW AUTHORISED DEALER, Performance Motors, recently celebrated the formal addition of the high-performance M5 to the local line-up. Powered by a Formula One-inspired 5.0-litre V10 engine that revs to a staggering 8,250rm, the M5 hits 100km/h from standstill in just 4.7 seconds.

The M5 also boasts the most powerful engine management computers ever fitted to an automobile, as well as a seven-speed sequential gearbox with no less than 11 driver-selectable gearshift modes. CarBuyer tested the M5 way back in issue 13 and our Road Test Editor proclaimed it a car he would gladly trade his first-born for.

Simon Rock (above left), managing director of Performance Motors said that, “enthusiasts will know that for years the BMW M5 has proved to be the benchmark for luxury sports saloons by virtue of its driveability. A wolf in sheep’s clothing, it combines everyday driving ability with the power and performance of a supercar”.

The M5 lists at $460,500 with COE and according to a Performance Motors spokesperson, eight units have already been ordered by local enthusiasts, and delivery of the first example, the bright blue model shown here, will take place sometime next month.
