MX-5 gets the gearbox it properly deserves
By Nick Syn
IF YOU’VE BEEN lucky enough to have had a go in the automatic version of the new MX-5, trying the manual in comparison is like having somebody poke a finger in your ribs, basically the experience consists of one big inane grin and plenty of shivers of delight.
As good as the automatic car is, the
manual is just plain terrific.
The new MX-5 is larger, more luxuriously appointed and a good deal more comfortable than the old
car, especially for taller drivers.
The styling for the most part is an evolutionary step forward from the old car’s, but Mazda’s managed to incorporate more radical themes from the flagship RX-8 with plenty of subtlety and good taste, and the
overall effect is very pleasing.
