Honda’s new big boy arrives

Largest ever Honda Accord gets its local launch

By Justin Lee

LOCAL HONDA DISTRIBUTOR Kah Motor unveiled the new eighth generation Honda Accord during an evening launch party at the Shangri-La hotel on 28th March for the media and customers.

Based on an all-new chassis, the Accord has larger dimensions all round which can be seen from its length of 4,945mm which is 90mm longer than its predecessor. It is also 24mm wider and 22mm taller along with a 60mm increase in its wheelbase.

It comes with three engine options, a SOHC 2.0-litre, a DOHC 2.4-litre, and a SOHC 3.5-litre V6. Of note is the 3.5-litre V6 which has Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology that shuts down two or three cylinders depending on engine load in the interests of fuel efficiency.

Owners of the new Accord will stand to benefit from the Honda Accord Advantage Programme offered by Kah Motor. This include 24-hours complimentary roadside assistance in Singapore, courtesy vehicle grooming with every servicing, and guaranteed next day service appointment even if appointment books are full.

Local sales targets for 2008 are pegged at 1,225 units with a projected equal uptake for the 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre models. Kah Motor expects the 3.5-litre version to make up 25 of the total number of Accords to be sold in 2008.

The 2.0-litre Honda Accord retails at $99,800, with COE while the 2.4-litre costs $106,800, with COE. The flagship 3.5-litre V6 costs $125,800, with COE.
