Running on gas
Dedicated local CNG conversion workshop opens its doors
By Justin Lee
THE C. MELCEHRS CNG department officiated the grand opening of its workshop on
18th April.
The Melchers CNG (compressed natural gas) conversion workshop is currently the only dedicated facility locally that converts cars to run on CNG. The workshop can handle up to 70 CNG conversions per month.
It is located at 110 Neythal Road, near Jalan Boon Lay at the west end of Singapore and is close to existing CNG filling stations.
There are now three filling stations in Singapore with one on Jurong Island, another at Jalan Buroh and the third at Mandai Link.
A variety of vehicles can be converted to run on compressed natural gas, which is significantly cheaper than petrol. These range from family sedans to multi-purpose vehicles or even sports cars. Expect to pay around $4,000 for converting a regular family sedan.
