Fiat 500 1.2 (A)

A little legend reborn

The 1.2-litre variant that is shown here has just 69bhp. But the car weighs in at a lightweight 865kg, endowing it with a pretty decent power-to-weight ratio. It feels lively enough off the line, with the semi-automatic five-speed gearbox shifting gears quickly and smoothly. It is mostly free of the jerkiness usually associated with transmissions that rely on an automated clutch.

There’s a sequential shifting mode as well should you prefer to time the gear changes yourself.

It’s a nimble little car, able to dart from corner to corner with minimal fuss and drama. Even during long sweeping corners there is very little body roll. There is a slight downside though, with the suspension dampers feeling choppy over small bumps on the road.

With a top speed of just 160km/h this isn’t a car that you’ll want to drive from Singapore to Thailand in, but in an urban environment it is very well behaved and easy to maneuver thanks to the large windows all round.
