Fiat 500 1.2 (A)
May 9, 2008

A little legend reborn

The 500’s interior is a nice place to be in. The plastics used throughout the cabin feel good to the touch and everything is well put together.

Continuing the car’s retro-design theme, the bottom half of the dashboard is painted in the same red hue found on the exterior.

Drivers are greeted by a nice grippy steering wheel with its centre made from retro-looking plastics bringing to mind the old bakelite material, which is a charming touch.

The instrument dials are stacked one on top of the other and is a really innovative combination. The outside ring houses the speedometer with the inner ring being the tachometer. The trip computer resides in the centre. This not only looks good but is also highly readable.

All the major items such as the factory-fitted stereo unit and climate control are mounted high on the centre console and operated by large switches which deliver satisfying feedback.

Interior space is adequate in the 500 despite its small dimensions. It has enough room for two average sized adults up front and the rear is not a tight fit either.

A standard fit moonroof does lend the car an airy atmosphere though.

The 500 has a unique selling point in the form of the Blue & Me system. Developed by Fiat in cooperation with Microsoft Corporation, it offers USB music player connection and Bluetooth communication through a specially designed interface via a small port mounted between the front seats.
