Chery A1 1.3 $39,999 with COE
The natural rival to the Benni, Chery’s A1 looks cute and is packed with equipment. It is also quite a good urban drive. However, quality is still lagging and the front seats are in need of firmer padding.

Naza Sutera 1.1 $39,000 with COE
An odd mix of Chinese technology and Malaysian construction, the Naza works on one level; it’s a clone of the Hafei Lobo, but better built. The cabin’s commodious, but the controls are squishy and vague.
