Forester in the Concrete Jungle |

ENGINE 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine delivers plenty of torque
INTERIOR Switchgear is well placed but hard plastics dominate the interior

Smooth and vibration free, this engine has a lively kick, revving lustily and without fuss to the redline. It is addictive booting the throttle and letting the car hurtle towards licence losing speeds. Progress is aided by a smooth shifting four-speed automatic gearbox though one or two more extra gears would not go amiss. There is still the distinctive boxer beat though it is muted as compared to its predecessor. The Forester is built on a derivative of the platform underpinning the Impreza hatchback. Handling is safe and assured with the standard constant all-wheel drive providing good traction. Ride comfort is good with the soft suspension soaking up all manner of humps and bumps. However, the trade off is pronounced body roll through corners. There is also a slight lack of body control when passing over a succession of road undulations.
