Chevrolet Aveo5 1.4 (A)
July 10, 2008

A new spring in the Chevy step

The Aveo5 is now fitted with the same dashboard and similar door panels as its booted sibling. It is not the last word in interior quality but everything feels tightly screwed together.

Gone are the horribly brittle plastics of the old car and in its place are more substantial feeling items. The best bits are the rotary controls knobs for the aircon and the buttons on the factory fitted audio system which feel good to use. Silver accents used liberally across the predominantly black cabin also lift the ambience.

There are some items that can do with improvements however such as the hollow feeling grab handles on the doors and insubstantial column stalks. The latter comes in for much criticism for its haphazard arrangement. The left stalk has functions for the headlamps, front foglamps and signal indicators while the right one controls the front and rear wipers, intermittent front wiper speed, and then tossed among the wiper functions is the switch for the rear foglamps.

Front and rear passenger space is good. There is no lack of head, shoulder and leg room for four average sized adults though three at the back will be a squeeze if anyone is about average size. The boot is well shaped and of an adequate size for the weekly shopping trip down to the local supermarket.
