Proton Saga sneaks in
Second generation model comes 23 years after the first one

SIX MONTHS AFTER its launch in Malaysia, the new Proton Saga will make its debut here at this Sunday’s CATS Car-nival.
The small sedan is based on an extended version of the Savvy’s compact hatchback platform and this can be seen in the 2455mm wheelbase up 60mm from the latter. The Saga’s exterior dimensions are comparable to those of the Kia Rio sedan. At 4257mm in length, it is 17mm longer than the Rio and 32mm taller but its width is 15mm narrower and the wheelbase is 45mm shorter.
It is powered by the same 1.3-litre 16-valve Campro engine found under the bonnet of the Gen.2. This unit produces a maximum of 95bhp at 6,000rpm and is mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.
The Saga is neatly styled and looks contemporary. It is the first model to feature a new black and white colour scheme for the Proton logo.
The car’s dashboard design is largely similar to that of the Savvy with the exception of the round air-conditioning vents, a different colour scheme for the instrument panel and the steering wheel which is lifted from the Satria Neo small hatchback.
Only the range topping M-Line model has been brought in and it is equipped with a driver’s airbag, remote central locking, front power windows and electric door mirrors.
The Saga is priced at $47,988 with COE for the manual version and $50,988 with COE for the automatic variant.
