Honda develops new airbag technology
i-SRS airbag for the driver’s side uses continuously staged inflation
By Justin Lee
HONDA HAS DEVELOPED the world’s first driver’s side airbag system that continuously stages the volume of airbag inflating gas. This system called i-SRS (SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint Systems) features a spiral shaped seam structure and gas release control valve for faster and controlled airbag deployment.
Honda claims that the i-SRS can accommodate a broad range of occupant positions and potential collision situations. The i-SRS will be introduced in November 2008 on the Japanese Domestic Market Life compact hatchback.
