Singapore GP nabs a grand prize of its own

Marina Bay circuit receives award as international Motor Sport Facility of the Year

By Derryn Wong

GRAND PRIX ACTUALLY does mean ‘great prize’, so its fitting that Singapore’s very own Marina Bay Circuit has won the title of Motor Sport Facility of the Year from the Professional Motor Sport World annual awards ceremony held in Cologne, Germany on November 11.

Stand out features which won Singapore the accolade was the advanced lighting system¬ as well as the unique layout of the circuit which, despite not providing much overtaking as hoped for on race day, was both challenging and picturesque, showcasing many of the sights of the City Hall area.

Marina Bay circuit beat off other prestigious international candidates such as the new Valencia street circuit as well as the new Toyota Racing Development chassis engineering facility in Cologne.

“We have received a great many compliments from around the world since the running of the race in September, but this is an award given by our peers, the professionals who work in motor sports. It therefore is especially gratifying to receive this award,” said Jonathan Hallett, Director of Media and Communications for Singapore GP Pte Ltd.

The Professional Motor Sport World Awards, now in its third year, are selected by a panel of judges from all areas of motorsport and span all aspects of international motor sports. Awards this year include Safety Innovation of the Year, Vehicle Development of the Year and personnel awards including Design Engineer and Team Principal of the Year.
