CarBuyer’s sneak peek of Geneva
We show you the meanest and greenest from the upcoming Geneva Motorshow
By Derryn Wong
TRADITIONALLY GENEVA HAS been a motorshow festooned with all-manner of go-faster exotics as manufacturers make use of the neutral ground of Switzerland to unveil their most exciting models.
But this year’s show, which will run from March 5 to 15, sees a race of a different kind as many manufacturers will be showing off production cars and prototypes which feature alternative fuels and propulsion heavily. Watch this space for more information closer to the show itself!
MEAN
Porsche 911 GT3
Porsche’s most hardcore road-going model, the GT3, will be revealed at Geneva too and sees a raft of improvements like a 0.2-litre bump in engine size and improved traction systems. Click here
Aston Martin Vantage V12
With the super-limited One-77 out of reach of most, Aston Martin will be unveiling its ‘regular’ supercar at Geneva. The formula? Take a V12 engine from the DB9, tune it to 510bhp and slot it into the Vantage chassis. The result: 0-100 in 4.2 seconds.
GREEN
Opel Ampera
General Motors-owned German manufacturer Opel made a big step towards the electric future with its Ampera – a car which will provide, “several hundred kilometres of non-stop electric driving” through a ground-breaking electric propulsion system.
IN-BETWEEN
Bentley’s biofuel supercar
The image you see here is the only representation of Bentley’s new Continental GT based machine. According to the company it’ll run on biofuel but also be the company’s most powerful and quickest production car yet. We can’t wait.
Mitsubishi MiEv concept
Mitsubishi will be showing off its i MiEV Sport ‘Air’ concept vehicle, which is the Japanese makers take on an electric sports car. Apparently it’ll signal the future direction of Mitsubishi’s EVs – exciting, given that the i MiEV production vehicle is scheduled to come here sometime this year.
