Skoda’s new mid-size executive sedan is simply Superb

The Skoda Superb will headline the Czech brand’s rejuvenation here

By Justin Lee

LOCAL SKODA DISTRIBUTOR Harvest Automobiles has recently launched the latest second generation Superb mid-size executive sedan at its new showroom situated at 3 Leng Kee Road.

This second-generation model (the first dates back to 2001) is based on the current Volkswagen Passat but is larger overall at 4838mm, up 73mm from the donor car. The wheelbase is also longer at 2761mm compared to the Passat’s 2709mm.

There are two engine options: a 160bhp turbocharged 1.8-litre in-line four mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and a 259bhp 3.6-litre V6 paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The 1.8-litre is available in two trim levels: base and Simply, while the 3.6-litre V6 only comes with one. All come highly equipped with a factory-fitted audio unit, nine airbags, rain sensing wipers, a dual zone climate control air-conditioning system and electronic stability program. The Superb in ‘Simply’ spec and the range-topping 3.6-litre V6 version gets additional equipment in the form of a parallel parking assistance system, bi-xenon headlamps, a navigation system and headlamps washers.

A major selling point is the ‘Twindoor’ hatch that allows the boot lid to be opened either like a conventional sedan or a hatchback. The latter offers a wide loading aperture to allow bigger items to be loaded easily.

The base spec Superb is priced at $89,800 while the Simply is priced at $99,800. The 3.6-litre V6 version retails at $118,800. All prices are inclusive of COE.
