Toyota Alphard
September 27, 2009

The Mile-High Club

Most MPVs use the traditional 2+3+2 layout, but the Alphard takes a slightly different tack, with a 2+2+3 layout, like the much smaller Honda Freed.

What’s also different is that the front passenger and second row seats are ‘Ottoman’ style recliners, so you can put the seat back down and deploy the footrests, pretending you’re in business-class on the road. Nifty, and unique.

The second row moves on rails, so the seats can move not just to and fro but sideways as well, while the third row seats flip upwards to stow sideways against the walls. Massive dimensions means there’s always room for everyone, even if you’re playing towkay in the Ottomans.

Most of the cabin is slathered in beige and faux wood, making it a little dull, but the Toyota build-quality is, as expected, second to none in this price bracket.
