Ahead of its launch in RHD markets like Singapore, the 2015 Ford Mustang is entering final testing.

DEARBORN, MICHIGAN — It’s amazing to think about it now, but for such an iconic car the Ford Mustang sure has done its best to ignore the Singapore market. That’s because it has never been available in right-hand drive. Until now, that is.

Make that ‘soon’, actually. After 50 years, Ford has finally gotten its act together to engineer the 2015 Mustang so that it can be made with the steering wheel on either side of the car.

That opens the Mustang’s audience up to places like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, and of course, Singapore.

It’ll go on sale here as early as next year, with two engines available. There’s a 2.3-litre turbo EcoBoost unit good for 310bhp, but for the full-on thunder of American muscle you’ll want the 5.0-litre V8 with 435bhp.

The new Mustang isn’t a porker (at 1,598kg for the 2.3 EcoBoost and 1,691kg for the 5.0 V8) so it should be plenty quick.

Them good ol’ boys at Ford are even careful to point out that it has independent suspension all ’round. As with the steering wheel being on the right side of the car, alls we can say is, about frickin’ time.
