The Audi Q5 Sportback is now available in Singapore, and Audi’s latest model joins the German carmaker’s growing range of swoopy coupe-SUVs, which now currently includes the Q3 Sportback and its high-performance RS Q3 Sportback sibling, as well as the all-electric e-tron Sportback.

As the name suggests, the Q5 Sportback is based on the regular Audi Q5 SUV, and its most direct competitors are the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. Two versions of the Q5 Sportback are offered here, with the Advanced trim retailing for S$279,413 with COE, and the S Line model going for S$292,511 inclusive of COE.

Both models are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine seen in the regular Audi Q5 here, which produces 249hp and 370Nm of torque, allowing the Q5 Sportback to go from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 237km/h. The drivetrain also gets the same 12-volt mild hybrid setup that allows for engine-off cruising, and the ability to disengage the quattro system’s drive to the rear wheels, turning the car from four-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive.

The difference between the two models comes down to equipment and specifications. The Q5 Sportback Advanced comes with features such as lane changing assistance, park assist with a 360 degree camera, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument panel, as well as the Audi connect online connectivity system as standard.

The Q5 Sportback S Line trim includes the above, and adds unique OLED taillights, 20-inch alloy wheels, and heated sports seats. Customers can also add on options such as adaptive air suspension, matrix LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and a head-up display.

Like many coupe-SUVs, the Q5 Sportback has a sloping rear roofline, which does impinge on rear headroom a tad. But the wheelbase remains the same as the standard Q5 (2,189mm), while the Sportback is actually 7mm longer in length. This means that the boot space is only slightly reduced, with the Sportback offering 510 litres of capacity, just slightly less than the regular Q5’s 550 litres.

Coupe-SUVs have become all the rage of late, with even mainstream manufacturers looking to cash in on the trend. Audi’s sister brand Volkswagen have themselves just announced their own Taigo small coupe-SUV, while Renault will also introduce the Arkana later this year, proving that the coupe-SUV trend is no longer the preserve of the premium manufacturers.
