MG has added a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) to its local line-up, with the HS PHEV going on sale with a price of S$211,888, including COE.

The car is based on the HS SUV, and features the same 1.5-litre turbocharged engine from the petrol-powered variant, which produces 160hp and 250Nm of torque. However, the PHEV model adds an electric drivetrain that develops 121hp and 230Nm of torque.

When combined, the HS PHEV produces a total output of 255hp and 370Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and the HS PHEV is able to go from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds, and hit a top speed of 190km/h.

MG says that the HS PHEV can drive for up to 52km on pure electric mode, which is comparable to most PHEVs on the market today. Fuel consumption is quoted at 1.8L/100km, and power consumption figure at 17.3kWh/100km, although the car is only able to fall into the neutral B band of the Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES).

Like the petrol HS, the PHEV model comes with a long list of standard equipment that makes it one of the most competitive family SUVs on the market. They include a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, a PM2.5 air purifier for the air con, and an electric powered tailgate.

Driver assistance safety features on the HS PHEV include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection and warning, and a 360 degree parking camera.

The HS PHEV joins the growing MG line-up in Singapore, which now includes the regular petrol-powered HS SUV, the fully-electric ZS SUV, which has become one of the best-selling electric vehicles in Singapore, and the MG 5 electric station wagon. 2022 will see the brand introduce a heavily-updated mid-life facelift of the ZS, as MG expands on its electrified offerings in Singapore.
