Peugeot’s latest 508 mid-sized sedan has arrived in Singapore; French Volkswagen Passat-rival retails for S$158,888 with COE

SINGAPORE

Peugeot is continuing its product revival in Singapore, having launched a series of new or updated models in recent months. The latest car to join the French brand’s local line-up, following the launch of the 2008, 3008 and 5008 crossovers, is the 508, a mid-sized sedan that brings plenty of French style and class to the segment.

Just one version of the 508 will be offered, the GT, and it retails for S$158,888 inclusive of COE, which puts it within the ballpark of the Volkswagen Passat and its Czech cousin, the Skoda Superb. The 508 GT uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 180hp and 250Nm of torque, and is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Peugeot says that the 508 is styled as a fastback, alluding to the car’s sleek stance and low roofline that gives the car an almost coupe-like silhouette. The front is dominated by the brand’s iconic Lion logo on the grille, flanked by sharp-looking LED headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs). LEDs also feature on the rear taillights, which Peugeot says can illuminate with adaptive intensity depending on whether it’s night or day, and the lights connected by a gloss black horizontal bar that stretches across the boot lid.

The interior is fairly standard Peugeot, with a 12.3-inch fully-customisable all-digital instrument panel sitting on top of the dashboard. Interestingly, the 8.0-inch central infotainment touchscreen meanwhile is located lower down the centre console instead of up high, offering a more driver-centric user experience. Seven toggle switches located just below the screen offer a more tactile way of accessing some of the car’s functionalities with minimal distraction.

Standard features on the 508 include Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, and front massage seats. The 508 also comes with driver assistance safety features such as blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and a 180-degree reverse camera. The top-spec GT trim that authorised dealer AutoFrance is offering for sale also comes with automatic levelling headlights, twin chrome exhausts, and 18-inch two-toned diamond cut alloy wheels.
