Interior and Design

Amazingly, the Swift’s basic ergonomics have not changed much over the 10 years. While materials and technology have been improved with time, the upright, comfortable driving position has been maintained from the previous generation cars. The Swift Sport gets its signature sports seats that are very supportive and handsome to look at as well.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel and six-speed manual gear lever have a solidly connected feel, and the metal-surfaced pedals add some bling to the footwell. The car is only being sold here with a six-speed manual transmission because Champion Motors believes that the niche appeal of the car means that only driving enthusiasts will spring for one, making this a very rare manual-only car being sold new in Singapore.

The bodywork is adorned with some carbon fibre print embossed skirts, a pair of chrome exhaust tips and a rear roof spoiler.

It’s also very well equipped with safety features including a full complement of six airbags, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, Electronic Stability Program and Radar Brake Support.

There’s no GPS navigation, but there’s a USB port to pair with your phone.

Cabin space is as expected for a car of this size, and there’s still that genuinely premium feel about the car that many rivals struggle to match at this price point. The insulation is great at allowing some of the sporty engine note to come in while generally keeping road noise out.

The rear bench is comfortable for two adults, but a bit of a squeeze for three, though headroom is good all round. An annoying quirk that has followed the Swift Sport across three entire generations is the position of the cabin interior light: it’s set towards the front, between the sun visors. That works for the base model Swift, but the Swift Sport has front seats with large headrests that completely block interior lighting at the rear. Which means after dark, you’ll need a flashlight to find stuff inside the mostly-black rear section of the car. The light really needs to be moved to the middle of the ceiling.

Boot space is aided by the rear bench’s ability to fold flat down, and it has pretty good vertical height too for carrying tall items.
