Nissan

Nissan Note E-Power

What: Note compact hatchback
Variants: 1.2 hybrid
When: Q1 2021
How much: TBA

UPDATE: We took the new Note E-Power for an extensive three-day test drive, and check out our feature to see how it fared

The third-generation Nissan Note will be available solely with Nissan’s electrified e-Power drivetrain when it goes on sale in Q1. Nissan says that the e-Power setup in the Note has been “extensively redesigned and redeveloped”, and will offer “more power and improved efficiency”, although they did not disclose precise figures.

The system gains a new electric motor and inverter, and has been tuned to deliver smoother acceleration and improved refinement. The petrol engine, which acts as a generator for the electric motor in the e-Power system, also operates at a lower rev range, and cuts in less often, enhancing efficiency further. The e-Power setup first appeared in Singapore on the Serena MPV in 2019, as well as the now popular Kicks small SUV, and the system is expected to feature extensively in Nissan’s line-up in the years ahead.

Stylistically, the new Note looks more like a regular hatchback as compared to the tall-boy design of the outgoing model. The interior has also been extensively upgraded, with a large touchscreen positioned high on the centre console, and features such as wireless phone charging will come as standard.

Nissan Elgrand

What: Elgrand large MPV facelift
Variants: 2.5 / 7-seater and 8-seater
When: Q1 2021
How much: TBA

Nissan’s large MPV competitor to the Toyota Alphard, the Elgrand, will get a long-overdue facelift after nearly a decade on sale, although the changes are mostly restricted to cosmetic and interior enhancements.

There is a new chrome grille design up front that gives it a more imposing look, while there is also a choice of a new two-tone body colour: Crimson Red with a black roof. Inside, the Elgrand gets new piano black and wood trims, and a new 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen that incorporates a 360-degree Intelligent Around View Monitor camera system to help with manoeuvring the gargantuan MPV. The Elgrand is available in both seven and eight seater variants, and will arrive in the first quarter of 2021.

Nissan Qashqai

What: Qashqai small SUV
Variants: 1.3 turbo mild hybrid
When: Q4 2021
How much: TBA

UPDATE: The new third-generation Qashqai has been unveiled, and here’s all the details in our news story

One of Nissan’s biggest sellers, the Qashqai crossover, will finally be replaced with a new model in the fourth quarter of 2021. Details are still scarce for now, and there are no official, uncamoflaged pictures of the car yet, but the car will arguably become one of the most highly-anticipated models of 2021.

What we currently know about the Qashqai is that it will sit on a new CMF-C platform that was developed under the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, and will likely see use in other brands in that group further down the line, perhaps in the next Renault Megane or Kadjar.

The platform is said to be lighter yet stiffer than the previous version, and has been extensively engineered to allow for electrification. This opens the door for a potential Qashqai e-Power model, or even a full Qashqai EV in the future. In the meantime, the Qashqai will launch with a 1.3-litre petrol powerplant with a 12V mild hybrid setup to deliver greater efficiency.

The Qashqai will also be bigger in dimensions all round, offering substantially more interior room and boot space than before. The usual tech features, such as a touchscreen infotainment system and Apple CarPlay compatibility, will all be present and correct here too. There’s also the possibility of the Qashqai being equipped with Nissan’s ProPilot suite of driver’s assistance systems, which include adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist, features which are already available on the smaller Kicks crossover.

Opel

Opel Crossland

What: Crossland small SUV facelift
Variants: 1.2 turbo GS Line
When: March 2021
How much: TBA

Opel will debut a facelifted Crossland in early 2021, with the small crossover SUV featuring the new Opel family look that will also feature on the Mokka. It incorporates the so-called Opel Vizor – a single panel that integrates the radiator grille and headlights and extends across the entire width of the fascia.

The sole variant of the Crossland available in Singapore will be the GS Line, powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 130hp. The updated Crossland also introduces Opel’s new IntelliGrip adaptive control system, which offers five different driving modes, namely Normal, Snow, Mud, Sand, and ESP Off. Opel says that the IntelliGrip system will deliver “optimum traction and stability on all kinds of surfaces.”

Opel Mokka

What: Mokka compact SUV
Variants: 1.2 turbo Elegance
When: June 2021
How much: TBA

The Mokka enters its second generation with a whole new design that looks more regular and less awkward than before. The new Mokka sits on the PSA Group’s Common Modular Platform (CMP), which also underpins cars like the Peugeot 2008, and Opel claims that the car is some 120kg lighter than before.

The car is also smaller in size than the outgoing model, and yet features a longer wheelbase for improved interior room. Power comes from the same 1.2-litre turbo with 130hp that underpins the Crossland, although European markets also get an EV model that is not currently earmarked for Singapore. Tech features include a 180-degree panoramic rear view camera, and adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality.

Peugeot

Peugeot 3008 facelift

What: 3008 facelift
Variants: 1.2-litre turbo, 1.6-litre turbo
When : January 2021
How Much: TBA

UPDATE: Read our review of the facelifted Peugeot 3008 here

Peugeot’s range of SUVs are criminally overlooked in a world obsessed with predictable choices. It’s a direct competitor to cars like the Skoda Karoq. For 2021, the already handsome 3008 gets a midlife update with restyled exterior trim and the promise of adaptive cruise control. It looks set to continue with the 1.2-litre turbo engine with 129 horsepower and 1.6-litre turbo with 181 horsepower.

Peugeot 5008 facelift

What: 5008 facelift
Variants: 1.2-litre turbo, 1.6-litre turbo
When : February 2021
How Much: TBA

UPDATE: We’ve driven the facelifted 5008 as well, and you can read our thoughts here

The seven-seat Peugeot 5008 is pretty much a larger version of the 3008 and will get the same midlife makeover to keep in theme for 2021. It also features the same engine variants, though based on the fact that it will usually be used to carry more people the 1.6-litre turbo engine is the way to go for this.

Peugeot 508

What: 508 sedan
Variants: 1.6-litre turbo
When : March 2021
How Much: TBA

UPDATE: The stylish 508 has now arrived in Singapore, and you can check out how it drives with our review here

The 4.75-metre long sedan looks very much to be a return to form for Peugeot. Sporting a similar dashboard architecture to the 3008 and 5008 but in a sedan form, the sleek sedan also has a PHEV variant known as the 508 PSE, for Peugeot Sport Engineered. The 508 PSE adds two electric motors to the 1.6-litre turbo engine for a total of 35 horsepower. Whether or not it will come to Singapore will probably be determined how local car buyers respond to the 508, but even in base level trim we think it looks very smart indeed.
