All the new cars coming to Singapore in 2022 from the likes of Lexus, Mazda, MG, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, and many more

Welcome to Part Three of our Annual New Car roundup where we bring you all the new cars that are coming to Singapore in 2022.

There are a multitude of brands covered in this section, spanning from Land Rover to Nissan. But the highlight here has to be Mercedes-Benz, who are bringing in no less than eight new models to Singapore in 2022, including the all-new C-Class, as well as a whole slew of electric cars under the Mercedes-EQ brand, such as the EQE and EQS.

Land Rover / Range Rover

What: Range Rover
Variants: Autobiography 3.0 mild hybrid

The fifth-gen Range Rover is expected to make its local debut in the middle of 2022. The British rival to large SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and Maserati Levante, the Range Rover trades on its super plush and luxurious ride quality. The Autobiography trim is the top spec variant and will be sold here with an inline-six cylinder, 3.0-litre petrol engine also featuring 48V mild hybrid drive. 

Lexus

What: New NX
Variants: NX 350 F Sport, NX 450h+

Lexus’ all-new, second-generation NX is already in town in NX 350h form (that’s the 2.5-litre self-charging hybrid) but two more variants will join the range in the first quarter of the year.

The NX 350 F Sport gets a 2.4-litre turbo engine tuned for 275hp, along with the racier styling and tauter suspension tuning that comes with the brand’s “F Sport” badge. It’s all wheel drive and gets to 100km/h in 7.0 seconds.

More intriguing is the NX 450h+ F Sport, Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid. It can apparently cover up to 76km (per WLTP testing) in pure electric mode on a single charge, which is enough for a typical day’s motoring here, and then some. That’s courtesy of a 18.1kWh battery pack that powers front and rear motors. A 2.5-litre petrol engine chips in for maximum performance or long-distance drives, and with a combined 304hp, the PHEV NX is both the most powerful and quickest one, reaching 100km/h in 6.3 seconds.

Beyond that, it’s a relatively quiet year for Lexus, at least in Singapore. Before 2022 is over, the brand is expected to show an all-new version of the RX, its larger SUV. A production version of the LF-Z Electrified could also see a global debut by year’s end. A pure electric, sporty SUV with 600km of range and 537hp, it can apparently hit 100km/g in 3.0 seconds and flick into corners super sharply, thanks to motors that can split their torque between the left and right wheels to induce turns. It should provide an exciting start to Lexus’ reboot as it reshapes itself as a brand ready to go all-electric by 2035.

Lotus

What: Emira

Announced in late 2021, the Emira is Lotus’ cheer-filled goodbye to petrol power. It’s a mid-engine sports car with a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 and no electric motor in sight. It looks to provide a premium sports GT experience that the less-than-impressive Evora never could. The V6 is a supercharged Toyota/Lexus engine and should be a cracker, while the four-cylinder version is likely to be supplied by AMG, the 2.0-litre which is a real fun-bringer as seen on the AMG CLA.

Mazda

What: MX-30

Mazda’s first full EV is scheduled to arrive in Singapore towards the end of 2022, and the MX-30 takes the form of a compact crossover with a sleek coupe-like shape. You can read our coverage from the car’s launch at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

Mazda says that the MX-30 is targeted at urban consumers, and thus features a small 35.5kWh battery that gives the car around 200km of range. Mazda emphasises that the reasoning for this is to reduce weight, and argues that the range is more than sufficient for the majority of the car’s customer base. In any case, there is also a plug-in hybrid model that features a rotary motor to function as a range extender, but as yet there is no word on whether this variant is coming to Singapore.

The MX-30’s electric drivetrain produces 140hp and 265Nm of torque, and Mazda promises that the brand’s focus on driving enjoyment will continue to be a part of the MX-30’s philosophy. Other highlights of the MX-30 include ‘suicide doors’, in a nod to the brand’s RX-8 sports car of the mid-2000s, while the car’s crossover shape should offer decent practicality for consumers.
