Audi has launched its triple-motor E-Tron S Sportback electric SUV in Singapore; priced at S$478,250 with COE

Audi has launched the E-Tron S Sportback in Singapore, with the electric performance SUV priced at S$478,250 inclusive of COE. The E-Tron S Sportback joins the burgeoning E-Tron range in Singapore, which now includes the regular E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback SUVs, and the E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT sports tourers.

As detailed in our news story in 2020, the highlight of the E-Tron S Sportback is its triple electric motors, with one at the front axle, and two at the rear axle, which Audi says is the first of its kind. Combined, they develop a total of 496hp and 973Nm of torque, allowing it to go from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds, and reach a top speed of 210km/h. Range is quoted at 360km, which is slightly down on the regular E-Tron which can go past 400km on a single charge.

The car will be driven by the rear motors for the majority of the time under normal driving conditions, with the front motor only kicking in when extra performance, or added traction, is required. The quattro all-wheel-drive system has also been enhanced with electric torque vectoring, with the rear motors sending power to each respective wheel via a single-speed transmission.

Audi even says that the car’s rear-biased setup means that E-Tron S Sportback is capable of “controlled drifts” if the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system is set to Sport, and the Audi Drive Select system set to ‘Dynamic’.

The E-Tron S Sportback’s suspension has been given a sportier tuning as well, with the adaptive suspension system now able to vary the car’s height by some 76mm, depending on the driving situation and settings. The 6-piston brake callipers up front are finished in black, but customers can also have them in bright orange if desired.

The car is also 50mm wider than the regular E-Tron Sportback, thanks to the wheel arches that are wider by 23mm on each side. The other external differences are the silver attachments at the front and rear, and standard aluminium wing mirrors. Customers can also opt for a two-tone body colour scheme, matrix LED headlights, and the camera-based virtual external wing mirrors as cost options.

The interior gets mostly only gets minor additions, such as the sports seats, and the ’S’ logo embossed on the upholstery and gear selector lever. Two versions of brushed aluminium trim are available, while customers can also opt for carbon trim as an option.

The E-Tron S Sportback is part of a major performance offensive for Audi this year, with the German brand planning to unleash a whole host of S and RS models to satiate the appetite of speed junkies. The non-Sportback E-Tron S is expected to follow soon, while also in the pipeline for 2022 are the RS 3, the SQ7, SQ8, and the R8 V10 Performance RWD.
