We round up the best mainstream electric vehicles you can buy right now, and review BMW’s first EV in seven years, while telling you why electrified cars are selling better than ever in Singapore

What are the best mainstream electric vehicles in Singapore?

The number of electric vehicle (EV) models available on sale in Singapore has grown substantially over the past year, and there are now choices in the mainstream market as well as the high-end luxury segment. We take a look at the best EVs you can get for under S$200,000 in our latest Best Of guide here on CarBuyer.

BMW’s first electric car in seven years is well worth the wait

BMW’s first EV was the i3, but it has taken seven years for it to introduce its second one. The wait has been worthwhile though, for the BMW iX3 proves to be all-round excellent, with its impressive range, fun drivability, and its status as the cheapest X3 variant you can get here. Derryn gives it two thumbs up in his review here, and BMW has already sought to improve it even further.

Electrified cars are selling better than ever in Singapore this year

A combination of a greater variety of models, as well as government incentives, mean that electrified cars (meaning hybrid, plug-in hybrids and full EVs) are garnering even greater sales in Singapore in 2021. Derryn breaks down the figures in his news analysis piece here, but the key takeaway is most drivers here will be driving some sort of electrified car sooner or later. Indeed, research indicates that 5 in 10 consumers intend to buy an EV as their next car here in Singapore.

Ju-Len indulges his inner greenie with the Toyota Camry Hybrid

Our resident Toyota man Ju-Len takes the latest Toyota Camry Hybrid for a spin, and he comes away suitably impressed. He’s very much sold, but you can check out his review here and see if you agree.

Here’s why Toyota Hybrid drivers are smarter

Speaking of Toyota hybrids, the team explores why Toyota hybrid owners have made the smarter choice. Using the Toyota Prius+ as an example, Derryn and Ju-Len explain the ins and outs of Toyota’s hybrid models, and why it makes sense for drivers in Singapore. The Skoda Octavia Combi offers more of everything

Station wagons aren’t exactly popular in Singapore, but for those in the know, they offer unparalleled levels of space and practicality, while standing out from the crossover/SUV crowd. Lionel has taken the new Skoda Octavia Combi out for a test drive, and he reckons its one of the most well-rounded cars you can get if you want something comfortable, spacious, efficient and great to drive.
