Conclusion

Of course, you might be spoilt for choice, but one easy way to spoil yourself is to buy a Mercedes. While the cars above all have their compelling features, none of them comes with a three-pointed star.

That might be reason enough to zoom in on the GLA 200, but there’s also a genuine case to make that the Mercedes is so visually elegant that the aesthetics of the thing should be enough to seal the deal. It’s a cliche that you should want to look back lovingly at your car after you park it, but perhaps that makes sense for anything that you’re going to drop six figures on.

Even so, it’s worth pointing out that Mercedes-Benz Singapore has plans to import the cheaper, less powerful GLA 180, though the company can’t say when the car will be here, so who knows how long that wait would be?

As for how the Mercedes stands on its own merits, the new GLA is clearly a better can than its predecessor. It’s roomier, more comfortable, has a more efficient engine, and the cabin quality is up a notch.

The GLA does feel more SUV-like than before, too, which is something you notice as soon as you clamber aboard and sit in those higher chairs. In more ways than one, the new GLA is a step up from the old one.
